I’ve been doing some geek work on my new web page this morning. I know we’re not all geeks in this group; so I wanted to teach a man to fish. We’re all swimming in this together, in the same “school,” right? 😉
If you have a web page, and you’ve started sharing it with your friends on Facebook like I have via messenger, you might notice that the little link card that pops up is a little jacked up…
If you have a WordPress blog, here’s how you can make it look the way you want:
1. In your WordPress dashboard, on the left side, click on Appearance -> Editor.
2. On the right side, find the “Theme Header” (or similarly named file).
3. Add lines something like the below. (Edit what I’ve put here, and add your own content.)
<meta property="og:type" content="website" /> <meta property="og:url"content="http://webpage.com/" /> <meta property="og:image" content="http://webpage.com/pic.png" /> <meta property="og:title" content="This is the bold title." /> <meta property="og:description" content="I hope you enjoy this page!" />
This lets you pick the title, description, and photo that will show up in the little “card” when you Facebook-message someone a link to your web page (or post it on a Facebook page somewhere.)
I hope this helps some of you peeps out there who are setting up a new page–like I am! 🙂
I’m happy to help you here and there when I have a few minutes, so feel free to reach out to me.
